The First Tee of the Triangle was founded in 2004 as The First Tee of Wake County by a group of influential community members including John Church, Jim Hyler, Mike Peebles, and Bob Winstead who shared a vision of bringing our national The First Tee junior golf and life skills program to our community.  This group along with the help of the NCSU Professional Golf Management program and the late Senator Vernon Malone joined forces in a powerful community collaboration to launch our program.  The First Tee national office recognized The First Tee of Wake County as a chapter on April 1, 2004 and the organization held an inaugural kickoff event at Hedingham Golf Club on June 9, 2004.

After a few years of steady growth, The First Tee of Wake County became The First Tee of the Triangle in 2007 and began to pilot outreach programs in both Durham and Orange County.  In 2010, we began offering The First Tee Life Skills Experience classes at Hillandale Golf Course in Durham and in 2011 began those same programs at Governors Club in Chapel Hill.  Based on the interest of the community, the support of the golf facilities, and the impact we have been able to have on the kids we serve, these programs experienced tremendous success early on and continue to do so today.

Since inception in 2004, we are proud to say that we have served over 6,316 kids in our high-impact program, now deliver our The First Tee National School Program in 45 local elementary schools, and have had the opportunity to outreach to over 18,000 kids in our communities through collaborative relationships and single day program offerings.  Thanks to the tremendous support of our donors, volunteers, community partners, and most importantly the kids and families we help, our future looks as bright as ever as we work to impact, influence, and inspire young people in our community!
