John grew up in central Indiana and entered the Virginia Military Institute on a basketball scholarship in 1965. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in economics, John spent two years on active duty as an Army officer. He later earned his MBA and JD at Indiana University. John was inducted VMI Sports Hall of Fame for basketball in 1981.
John spent 25 years working for various Fortune 500 companies in Senior Executive Leadership positions.
John and his wife of 44 years, Marie, relocated to Chapel Hill, N.C., in 2000. Five years ago, he became involved with The First Tee of the Triangle as a mentor in our access program and volunteer coach. He was instrumental in establishing a National School Program in Chatham County and oversees our program location at the Governors Club community where he resides.
